How the program works

The program connects small businesses with up to 20 employees with big business mentors who are able to provide them with advice and practical assistance about work health and safety, workers compensation and injury management.  Work Safe Tasmania also provides informaiton and assistance through a series of workshops and online seminars.

Where possible, small businesses are matched with a large business from the same industry, however it has been found that business who face similar challenges are likely to form successful partnerships, regardless of what industry they are in.

The program runs for approximately 8-9 months and includes:

  • An opening ceremony where mentors and mentees can meet and overview of the program is provided
  • Onsite visits - at least 2 visits to the mentee workplace and 1 to the mentor workplace.  The mentors provide practical advice and assist them in completing an action plan which identifies key issues in their businesses.
  • Discussions, workshops and webinars ( on-line seminars)
  • A closing cermony where participants are awarded with a high quality certificate of participation

WorkCover's role is to:

  • provide information, resources and training
  • organise expert and technical assistance if required
  • organise expert technical assistance if required
  • encourage communication between mentors and mentees and monitor progress
